Travel Before You Have Kids…

Aside from the typical marriage advice you hear, this is the number one piece of advice Seth & I were given when we got hitched almost 5 years ago. I would guess that we enjoy traveling more than the average couple. Our biggest problem is trying to narrow down where we’d like to go if time and money allow it. It is by far the number one dream that Seth and I share outside of striving to have a solid marriage and family.

With that said, this piece of advice scared us the most. It can be disheartening to think about a future that is missing one of your favorite activities. So, needless to say, we took it seriously. We waited to “start trying” because we wanted to have quality time together and time to travel.

Aside from discussing that we love being married and we’re thankful to be starting a family, the number one thing we go back to is that we are so glad we have had some time to travel pre-kiddos. We’ve been on some awesome trips that we planned as frugally as possible and we are constantly reminiscing about those trips. Seriously, we talk about it like you would talk about a baby. Priceless.

So really, will life be different with a baby? Yes, of course. Will we try our best to travel both with and with out our child? YES! It may not be the same, but we’ll be able to make new memories and look back knowing we did all we could to make it work.

My advice to you: If you want to travel, make it a priority, make it happen and don’t look back! DO IT! It’s all about fun, adventure, memories, silliness and discovering new places together:)

Just for the record, traveling WITH kids is super-rewarding too… Just a little more exhausting–and your packing-list changes a lot. 😉

Traveling with kids is really fun… definitely different, but still worth it. The amount of “stuff” you end up taking is ridiculous, but if you get over that, it can be a really wonderful experience. You guys are going to make it happen- you’ll take on the world with little ones!

We haven’t really tackled the travel with kids thing yet, but I will say that I think we appreciate travel alone together now in a way that we didn’t pre-kid(s). We just went to New England last month and the huge quantity of alone time together was maybe the best part of all since it’s such a rarity in regular life these days! I too hope to always travel as much as we can afford…and at some point we’ll even incorporate our offspring. 🙂

I’m sure having kids makes you really appreciate alone time as a couple! I’d love to here more about your trip, too!
