Habitat for Humanity ReStore & My Art Shelves

First of all, have you ever been to the Habitat ReStore near you? If you haven’t, you are missing out! Man I love this place. The one in our town is literally about 5 blocks away from our house. We could walk if we knew we weren’t going to get anything, but of course we ALWAYS do. It is my go to place whenever we need random odds & ends or building materials, etc.

Here are some things we have purchased there:
-Gently used Pottery Barn couches that we got for a steal (trust me, we could never afford even an 8th of the cost of one brand new)
-Handfuls upon handfuls of found objects for my art for mere cents
-Mirrors and frames to re-do and up-cycle
-Cabinet doors & old windows for art stuff and mosaics
-Books for Seth
-A $2 popcorn popper that we use to roast our own coffee beans…a HUGE money saver & the coffee is fantastic!

But the purchase I am most excited about is 4 old wooden closet doors. You see, I was about to lose my mind with all of the art clutter on the work surfaces of my studio and I was dying for shelving…SERIOUS shelving. The problem was that the shelves needed to be huge, super heavy-duty to hold ceramic tiles, and super cheap, all of which we could not find in one shelf. Seth and I started thinking about building them, but it was still coming out to more than we wanted to spend.

Solution- Habitat ReStore! Old closet doors! How much you ask? $20 total for 4 huge, sturdy shelves that are each about 6 or 7 feet long!

Seth finished hanging the shelves on a Monday night and I could barely sleep because I just wanted to get in there to organize! Admittedly, I am a bit OCD about organization, not necessarily cleanliness, but organization for sure. I have dreams of my awesomely strong shelving. They need to be patched and painted too, but I couldn’t wait to get them up so that will have to wait until later. For now, I have the strongest, sexiest art shelves ever! Thanks to Seth for hanging them too because that was quite a project. I will have to get a good picture and post it later.

Now, go to the ReStore! It rocks! (I am in no way being paid to advertise, I just love it)
